Beetroot Juice and Heart Health After Menopause

Heart disease is the top killer of women, especially after menopause. Beetroot juice, rich in natural nitrates, may help blood vessels work better. This study tested daily beetroot shots in women at early and late menopause stages. Participants drank nitrate-rich or placebo juice for a week. Blood vessel function was checked before and after the trial.
The nitrate juice improved resting vessel flexibility compared to placebo. But this benefit faded within a day after the last dose. Beetroot did not protect vessels during stress tests simulating blood flow blockage. Timing matters protection seems tied to recent intake and body rhythms. Short-term beetroot may offer a simple, food-based boost for vessel health. Yet, effects are fleeting and don’t shield against sudden stress. More research is needed to fine-tune dosing for lasting benefits. For now, beetroot looks promising but not a standalone fix.
