A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of a nutraceutical combining Boswellia serrata gum resin (300 mg) and Apium graveolens (celery) seed extract (250 mg) in 62 participants with knee osteoarthritis. Over 90 days, supplementation significantly reduced pain, stiffness, and swelling, improving WOMAC, VAS, KOOS, and mobility scores. Biomarker analysis revealed decreased inflammation (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α, CRP, ESR) and cartilage breakdown markers (CTX-II, COMP, MMP-3), alongside increased collagen synthesis indicators (PIIANP, PIICP), supporting cartilage regeneration. The formulation was well tolerated with no safety concerns, highlighting its potential as a safe and effective herbal nutraceutical for osteoarthritis management.
