As scientists continue to explore natural ways to manage this condition, a new study from Iran sheds light on a promising bee-derived remedy propolis.
Propolis, a natural resin collected by honeybees from tree buds and plant sources, is rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds with known anti-inflammatory properties. In this 12-week clinical trial, 66 individuals diagnosed with metabolic syndrome participated to evaluate the effects of Iranian propolis supplementation on their health, mood, and overall quality of life.
Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 250 mg propolis extract tablets twice daily or a placebo. After three months, those taking propolis showed a significant reduction in waist circumference and reported notable improvements in physical functioning, general health, and overall quality of life, as measured by the SF-36 questionnaire. Interestingly, other metabolic markers such as blood glucose and lipid profiles remained largely unchanged compared with the placebo group.
These findings highlight that while propolis may not alter all metabolic parameters, it can contribute to better physical health and well-being offering a natural, safe, and supportive adjunct in managing metabolic syndrome. As research continues, propolis could find a meaningful place in integrated approaches toward metabolic health.

Source : https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-023-31254-y

Metabolic syndrome has become one of today’s most common lifestyle-related health concerns, marked by a combination of risk factors such as abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, and impaired glucose metabolism.
