The extract and agerarin significantly increased the expression of SCUBE3, a signaling molecule associated with hair follicle activation and regeneration. Their activity was linked to stimulation of the MAPK/AP-1 signaling axis, which enhanced transcriptional pathways involved in dermal papilla cell proliferation and hair growth signaling. The treatment also supported cellular activity related to follicular regeneration and growth-phase maintenance, improved communication between dermal papilla cells and surrounding follicular structures. Ageratum houstonianum extract and agerarin exhibit promising hair growth promoting activity through MAPK/AP-1-dependent upregulation of SCUBE3, supporting their potential application in cosmetic and therapeutic hair care formulations.

Source : https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/27/8/3679

The study on Ageratum houstonianum extract and its major bioactive compound agerarin for their ability to promote hair growth in human dermal papilla cells, which play a central role in regulating hair follicle development and cycling.
