Ovariectomy increased plaque formation, inflammation, and endothelial apoptosis, but PQS treatment reduced these harmful changes at both early (8 weeks) and advanced (14 weeks) stages. Mechanistic analysis showed PQS acts through estrogen receptor \u03b1 (ER\u03b1), regulating inflammation and apoptosis via ER\u03b1\/PI3K\/Akt and ER\u03b1\/MEK\/ERK1\/2 pathways. Blocking ER\u03b1 diminished PQS\u2019s benefits, while activating ER\u03b1 enhanced them.
